On August 4 the Colgate community gathered for the annual golf tournament: alumni, coaches, players, and many members of the community came out to support the event.

A highlight of the day was a convening of three highly accomplished coaches: Colgate head coach Matt Langel, former Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim and former NCAA and NBA coach P.J. Carlesimo. Coach Langel was on site with the team to personally greet and thank the golfers for their support. Jim and P.J. have been longtime friends and were once competitors in the Big East; each has made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances across a long coaching career.

Matt Langel, Colgate’s winningest head coach, has led the program to sustained success since taking over in 2011. Under his tenure Colgate earned NCAA Tournament bids in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and he’s been recognized multiple times as Patriot League Coach of the Year with almost 250 career wins.

Jim Boeheim coached Syracuse for decades, won the 2003 national championship, and led Syracuse to 34 NCAA Tournament appearances and five Final Fours. His official coaching record is over 1,000 career wins.

P.J. Carlesimo rebuilt Seton Hall into a Big East power in the 1980s, leading the Pirates to the 1989 Final Four and multiple NCAA berths. He also served as head coach of multiple NBA teams and won 3 championships as a longtime assistant for the San Antonio Spurs. His son, Kyle, is on the Colgate men’s basketball team.
